Home based franchises can appeal to buyers who want to run a service business without a customer-facing storefront. WSI provides one example: its digital marketing franchise can operate from a home office within the designated territory. The attraction is a business built around client relationships, digital services and a supplier network. A home address, however, does not remove the work of finding clients and managing delivery.
What a WSI franchise does
National Internet Corporation’s April 30, 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document describes services including website development, search engine optimization, paid advertising, content marketing and consulting. Franchisees use approved suppliers through WSI’s eMarketplace to deliver services. The business was founded in Toronto in 1995 by Dan Monaghan, Paul Monaghan and Mark Dobson.
For a prospective owner, this makes supplier coordination and understanding client needs useful areas to explore. Ask how proposals are developed, who manages revisions, and how the franchisee tracks delivery and client satisfaction. The WSI franchise profile provides a starting point for evaluating the opportunity.
What operating from home allows
Item 11 permits one office location, including a home office, within the designated territory. WSI must be notified of the location, and relocation requires permission. The FDD offers regional, national and international franchise formats with different selling areas; territories are nonexclusive. Working online therefore does not mean unrestricted geographic rights.
Consider whether your workspace supports confidential calls, reliable internet access and uninterrupted client meetings. Ask existing owners how much time they spend prospecting, meeting clients, coordinating suppliers and administering accounts. These answers are more useful than assuming that a home based business automatically provides a flexible schedule.
Training and ongoing support
Item 11 describes online preparation followed by a five-day in-person training stage in Toronto, subject to the disclosed alternatives. After initial training, franchisees participate in a six-month Quick Start Program with group calls and personal coaching. Ongoing assistance includes sales, operations and marketing support, educational resources and access to business systems. Additional training and related expenses can apply.
Management and costs still matter
Item 15 requires active full-time management and supervision by a trained operating principal or manager. An entity’s operating principal must hold at least 51% ownership and have authority over business decisions. This is a substantive operating role, even when the office is at home.
Build a budget around the selected franchise format and its current disclosures. Include required fees, marketing, technology, training-related expenses and working capital. Compare what the franchise provides with the responsibilities you retain. Home-office eligibility alone does not establish lower total costs, reduced risk or a particular income.
