An irrigation franchise deserves evaluation as both a technical service business and a local customer-service operation. Conservation is a useful focus for that evaluation, but an environmental message alone cannot establish customer demand, lower bills or a profitable business.
Conserva Irrigation’s service model
Conserva Irrigation’s January 26, 2026 FDD describes repair, maintenance, service, design and construction of residential and commercial irrigation systems, emphasizing water conservation. Item 1 places the franchisor within the Empower Brands ownership structure.
To assess the local opportunity, ask which services customers actually buy, how jobs are priced and what evidence supports claims about water savings. Request examples that explain the customer’s starting conditions, the work performed and the period measured. Avoid treating one property’s result as a promise for every customer.
Training and operating support
Item 11 provides for initial training lasting up to ten business days. Topics include field operations, products, sales, marketing, technology and administration. Attendees pay their travel and living costs. The franchisor supplies operating standards, equipment specifications, an operations manual and launch-marketing assistance; some additional on-site help is discretionary.
Ask how training prepares your team for the services you plan to sell. Discuss the experience needed for technicians, how new employees learn the work, and who handles difficult field problems. In your operating plan, include time for recruiting, supervision, customer communication and quality checks.
The owner’s role
Item 15 expects owners to spend 30–40 hours weekly running the business. If unable to do so, an owner must appoint an approved Business Operations Manager who completes training. Review the actual management arrangement before assuming the business fits a part-time schedule.
Evaluate the territory and budget
Before selecting a market, investigate the local customer mix, existing irrigation systems, competing service providers, travel distances and seasonal scheduling. Ask current operators how these factors affect staffing and workload. Confirm territory availability and contractual boundaries directly with the franchisor.
Build a budget around the applicable FDD and your location. Separate initial fees, equipment, vehicles, ongoing charges, payroll and working capital. Obtain written financing terms if offered, and assess the repayment burden alongside operating expenses. A financing arrangement does not establish that the business can support the debt.
For commercial or national-account work, ask how assignments are awarded, what service and payment terms apply, and which costs remain with the local operator. Do not assume account access guarantees a particular volume of jobs or a margin.
