The Junkluggers Franchise: Services, Training and Owner Responsibilities

Jul 25, 2024 | 0 comments

The Junkluggers is a franchise offering residential and commercial junk removal alongside second-hand furniture procurement, restoration and retail services under the Remix Market name. Its April 30, 2026 FDD describes a landfill-diversion focus through reuse, recycling and donations. Prospective owners should examine how that approach is implemented alongside the work of running a local service business.

Junk removal and Remix services

Item 1 includes both junk removal and Remix services in the franchise offering. Remix may operate virtually, through a pop-up or, subject to limitations, from physical premises. A physical retail operation involves separate space and cost considerations; buyers should confirm the format they are planning.

The approved services exclude routine municipal-style trash collection and hauling hazardous waste. Donation and recycling are operating objectives, not a guarantee that every collected item can be reused. Ask how the business evaluates items, chooses appropriate destinations and documents disposal.

The FDD requires a charitable event each calendar year and recurring contributions from Remix gross revenue to an approved charity. Discuss the applicable requirements and local arrangements before making claims to customers about where their items or proceeds will go.

Initial training

Item 11 says the initial program generally lasts five business days and is usually held in Seymour, Connecticut, with flexibility to change delivery and location. It covers both junk removal and Remix services, with online preparation and practical work. The earlier description of a two-day orientation did not capture this current program.

Training subjects include estimates, customer communication, business development, marketing, workplace safety, the appointment center, truck operations and team development. The key person and designated owners must complete required training satisfactorily before opening. Attendees’ travel, accommodation, meals and salaries are additional owner responsibilities.

Opening and ongoing resources

Pre-opening assistance includes training, operating manuals, call-center account setup, designated software information and work on a launch marketing plan. The franchisor provides equipment and signage specifications but does not supply or install those items directly.

Continuing resources include additional training, brand standards, assessment procedures, advertising-plan review and materials financed by the brand fund. Extra opening assistance beyond customary support may carry a fee and expenses. Confirm the specific resources, charges and response process instead of assuming unlimited personal coaching.

Who manages the business?

Item 15 requires a key person with at least 5% ownership who is responsible for day-to-day performance and ordinarily operates the business as a primary occupation. A full-time designated manager may be used with franchisor approval under the disclosed conditions and must complete training.

Owning additional trucks or territories adds operating decisions. Evaluate recruitment, routing, vehicle costs, maintenance, disposal arrangements and management capacity before assuming expansion will improve results. Obtain the applicable territory rights and agreements for any proposed additional location.

Questions for prospective owners

Ask operators how they price jobs, estimate labor, manage routes and handle items that cannot be donated. Discuss lead sources, customer follow-up and the work required to maintain relationships with charities and other destinations. Review budgets for staff, trucks, insurance, marketing, software and working capital.
