Glass Doctor Franchise: Auto vs. Home and Business Options

Jul 25, 2024 | 0 comments

The Glass Doctor franchise offers two distinct service models: Auto and Home and Business. Choosing between them is the starting point for evaluating the opportunity. Each has its own service scope, training emphasis and customer relationships, so a buyer should compare the actual operating option rather than assume every Glass Doctor franchise provides every type of glass service.

Auto vs. Home and Business

The April 1, 2026 FDD from Glass Doctor SPV LLC describes the Auto Option as installing, repairing and replacing auto glass and providing related approved services and products. The Home and Business Option covers residential and commercial flat glass, shower enclosures and related work.

The distinction also appears in the training curriculum. Auto training includes outside sales involving insurance and fleets; Home and Business training addresses property management, construction and commercial customers. Consider which customer relationships you are prepared to develop and which technical team you can recruit.

Company background and franchise structure

The current franchisor is based in Waco, Texas and is part of the Neighborly organization. Item 1 traces predecessor franchising activity back to 1977 and the 1998 acquisition of the earlier franchise assets. The separate Auto and Home and Business offering dates to April 2020. Both startup and existing-business conversion opportunities are described in the FDD.

Training and opening support

Item 11 describes site selection guidelines, approved supply information, operating manuals, training and opening support. Phase II training generally lasts ten days: an operations week followed by technical training and a mentorship component. Operations training starts in Waco or may be virtual; the technical and mentoring component uses a designated franchisee location or virtual delivery.

The program includes sales, marketing, recruiting, leadership and business systems, with content tailored to the selected option. Owners and location managers have attendance and completion requirements. Travel, living and miscellaneous training expenses remain the franchisee’s responsibility. The owner also remains responsible for adequately training employees; the franchise program is not a substitute for building a qualified service team.

Ongoing assistance includes communication and manual updates, supplier information, periodic consultation visits as considered necessary, and refresher courses, meetings or conventions. Some events carry additional fees and travel costs. Marketing fund participation does not guarantee that a particular amount will be spent in the owner’s local area.

Territory protection and management

Item 12 provides limited territory protection, not complete exclusivity. In particular, an Auto franchise and a Home and Business franchise may operate in the same territory. Certain existing operators and qualifying transfers may retain both options. Review the option and reserved rights in the proposed agreement before assessing local competition.

Item 15 generally requires an individual owner to perform or supervise operations, or an entity’s trained designated owner to provide direct on-site supervision. An approved alternative manager may supervise when the franchisor consents. Buyers should decide who will lead daily work before treating the opportunity as a managed investment.

Assessing owner fit

Ask franchisees about recruiting technicians, estimating work, obtaining materials, scheduling jobs and handling customer follow-up. Compare the sales effort and operating requirements of the two options. Build a budget for the selected model rather than combining assumptions from auto glass and residential projects.
