The College Hunks franchise combines a recognizable service brand with the practical work of organizing crews, vehicles and customer appointments. Its junk removal and moving concepts serve residential and commercial customers, but buyers need to distinguish the two offerings and the responsibilities of running each. The model may suit someone interested in leading a local service team and managing day-to-day operations.
How the franchise developed
CHHJ Franchising L.L.C., the franchisor identified in Item 1 of its 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document, was formed in October 2006 and began offering franchises in mid-2007. The company is based in Tampa, Florida. Its system includes branded vehicles, operating procedures, software, training and a centralized Sales and Loyalty Center.
Junk removal and moving are distinct concepts
Junk removal involves collecting unwanted items from homes or businesses and taking them to appropriate disposal or recycling facilities. Moving involves relocating customers’ belongings and may include packing services and sales of packing materials. The FDD describes opportunities to purchase either concept or both, depending on financial ability and professional experience.
Adding the moving concept involves additional equipment, insurance, a required vehicle and training requirements. A buyer should compare the exact offering being considered rather than assume every College Hunks franchise includes the same services or startup needs.
Training before opening
Item 11 describes mandatory initial training for the buyer and one additional person. It includes approximately five to fifteen days at the Tampa headquarters or virtually, with additional onsite training at a certified training location or another selected host location. Training is included in the initial franchise fee for those two participants; travel, lodging, meals, wages and incidental attendance expenses remain the franchisee’s responsibility.
The curriculum covers recruiting, pricing, financial management, customer relations, local marketing, software, crew operations and moving estimates and paperwork. The training table lists classroom and onsite components, and the franchisor can adjust the program for a trainee’s needs or experience. Successful completion is required before opening.
Booking, technology and ongoing support
The Sales and Loyalty Center receives customer requests and routes them according to location. It schedules appointments and maintains customer information. Required proprietary software supports job booking, client management and reporting. The FDD also describes operating guidance through electronic and telephone communications, a business webpage within the brand’s website, and assistance establishing a social media presence.
Some assistance is discretionary. For example, the franchisor may elect to provide additional onsite training during the first three months. It does not promise to spend an advertising amount in each territory. Buyers should distinguish contractual services from optional help when planning their local marketing and staffing.
The owner’s role and premises
Item 15 requires a designated Managing Owner with at least a 51% ownership interest to devote full time and best efforts to supervising and operating the business. The Managing Owner or an approved, trained manager must directly supervise it; the Managing Owner and/or approved manager must be physically present for at least 30 hours per week. Hiring a manager does not remove the Managing Owner’s obligations.
Item 11 calls for approximately 1,500 square feet of office and warehouse space and does not permit a residence to serve as the business office. The franchisee remains responsible for employee decisions, required insurance, permits and licensing. This is a team-and-vehicle operation requiring active oversight, not simply a brand name on a truck.
Evaluating the fit
Ask current franchisees about recruiting crews, vehicle scheduling, customer claims and the coordination between local staff and centralized booking. Compare the costs for the specific junk removal, moving or combined format. Revenue claims require their own supporting evidence; centralized support does not guarantee sales or profit.
