About Koala Insulation

From an insulation business to a franchise network

Koala Insulation traces its beginnings to 2018 and developed around a practical customer need: improving the performance of buildings through insulation. The brand combines recognizable green branding with services that address heat transfer, indoor comfort and energy use. Its service offering includes spray foam, blown-in and batt insulation, allowing local teams to recommend different approaches for different buildings and applications.

The predecessor franchisor, Koala Franchise, LLC, was formed in Florida in January 2020 and began franchising on January 21, 2020. The business expanded through local operators using the Koala name, installation equipment and operating procedures. In April 2023, the franchise system’s assets were acquired in a transaction involving Empower Brands. The current franchisor, Koala Insulation Franchisor, LLC, was formed in March 2023 and began offering franchises in May 2023. These dates distinguish the original brand and franchise program from the current legal franchisor.

A mobile service model for local markets

Today, Koala’s system includes proprietary equipment and trailers called Koala Rigs, together with procedures for estimating, operations, accounting, collections, management and inventory. Franchisees travel to customer properties to perform the work. A home office is permitted, or an owner may choose a separate location subject to approval. Vehicle parking, safe material storage, staffing and local licensing remain important operating responsibilities.

The standard territory is approximately large enough to include 200,000 people. The FDD describes it as a non-exclusive, protected territory, with protection dependent on compliance and operating requirements. It is not a blanket promise of freedom from competition. The ownership structure allows direct owner participation or delegation to an approved, trained operations manager, with full-time sales and operational responsibilities covered as required by the franchise agreement.

Koala Insulation franchise cost

The January 23, 2026 FDD estimates $194,885–$241,736 to establish one territory, including the standard $49,500 initial franchise fee. The equipment and vehicle estimate assumes financing: a 20% deposit, a 60-month term at 9%, and three months of payments. Paying for equipment outright or obtaining different financing changes the cash needed. The separate $150,000 liquid-capital and $250,000 net-worth qualification figures shown above are from IFPG’s current detailed listing; they are not the FDD’s total-investment estimate.

Koala Insulation Training and Support

Technical skills and business preparation

Koala Insulation franchise training covers both fieldwork and the commercial side of running an insulation company. The 2026 FDD lists 42.5 classroom hours and 39 hours of on-the-job instruction. Subjects include insulation types, building envelopes, estimating, sales and marketing, recruiting, staff management and the customer relationship management process. Practical instruction addresses loose-fill and dense-pack insulation, insulation removal, batt installation, spray polyurethane foam safety and troubleshooting.

Training is currently based in Melbourne, Florida, with part of the spray foam practical work also listed in the franchisee’s territory. The operating principal, operations manager and salesperson must successfully complete the required initial program before opening. Initial instruction and required materials are provided for up to three people; travel, lodging, meals, wages and benefits remain the franchisee’s responsibility.

Preparing for launch

Before opening, Koala provides its operating manuals and identifies suppliers for equipment, opening inventory and supplies. The franchisor approves a proposed separate business location if an owner elects not to work from a home office. Additional opening assistance may be provided when requested and considered appropriate, with expenses and possible service charges payable by the franchisee. Owners arrange staffing, permits, insurance, financing and the required vehicles and rigs. The FDD estimates one to four months between signing and opening, depending on these preparations.

Support after opening

Ongoing assistance includes periodic guidance on marketing, management and operations, review of proposed advertising, and administration of the system’s brand fund. Additional training is made available as the franchisor considers appropriate. Koala also describes a franchisee mentorship program and practical learning resources on its official training website, adding opportunities to learn from experienced operators.

Owners remain responsible for executing local marketing and leading their teams. The FDD currently requires a 1% brand-fund contribution and local advertising expenditure equal to the greater of 5% of gross sales or $2,000 monthly, with additional opening advertising requirements. Refresher programs, conferences, replacement-manager certification and requested on-site instruction can involve fees and travel expenses. This is continuing business support with defined owner responsibilities, rather than a promise that all future training or advertising is free.

Why Koala Insulation

Turn building comfort into a local service business

Koala Insulation offers a clear proposition for an owner who enjoys building teams and solving practical customer problems. The work has a tangible purpose: installing insulation that can improve how homes and commercial properties retain conditioned air and manage temperature. With several insulation methods available, the conversation can focus on the building’s needs rather than a single product.

The mobile model puts equipment and technicians where the work is, while the home-office option can reduce dependence on a customer-facing retail location. Dedicated rigs, documented procedures and technical instruction give owners a defined operating foundation. The combination of estimating, local relationships, installation quality and follow-up creates several ways for a hands-on leader to distinguish the business in a local market.

Koala may suit someone with sales, management or construction experience, but its candidate guidance does not require a prior insulation background. The stronger fit is an owner willing to learn the trade’s business requirements, develop capable managers and technicians, and maintain consistent customer service. For prospects comparing home services franchises or suitably equipped home-based franchise models, Koala brings together a specialized service, a recognizable brand and a framework for building a local team.
