CMIT Solutions is an information technology services franchise serving primarily small and medium-sized businesses. Its April 27, 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document describes outsourced IT support, professional and managed services, and approved hardware and software offerings.
Understanding the business model
Item 1 identifies the franchisor as CMIT Solutions, LLC, based in Austin, Texas. The entity began under a different corporate name in 2009, adopted the CMIT Solutions name in 2010 and converted to a limited liability company in 2018. It has offered these franchises since February 2010.
The disclosure does not require a specific IT background to own the business. It does call for general computer and internet knowledge and a willingness to learn. Technical experience may help with sales and with hiring or managing skilled staff, but ownership should be evaluated as an operating and client-service commitment.
Initial training and preparation
Item 11 describes two weeks of virtual training followed by a week of in-person instruction. The program covers business setup, core systems, products, marketing, sales and service delivery. The live portion uses scenarios and practical application, followed by weekly check-ins during the initial period.
The initial program is provided without a training charge for up to three people associated with the business. Attendees’ wages, travel, lodging and living expenses remain the franchisee’s responsibility. Additional participants incur a fee. Required individuals must satisfactorily complete the program before operating or managing the business.
This documented program is a more useful basis for planning than relying on older references to a Smart Start program or assuming that training guarantees expertise in every situation.
Premises, equipment and continuing support
A separate office outside the home is not required. If an owner chooses commercial premises, Item 11 says the franchisor does not assist with locating the site, negotiating the purchase or lease, or preparing it for occupancy. The owner must acquire the necessary equipment and meet applicable requirements.
The franchisor provides equipment specifications and approved-supplier information, identifies required technology and lends its confidential manual. Continuing provisions include manual updates, administration of the marketing fund and an annual regional or national convention. The fund promotes the brand; the FDD does not require spending in an individual owner’s territory.
Support should therefore be assessed alongside the work and expenses retained by the owner, including local business development and service delivery.
Who manages the business?
Item 15 requires an individual franchisee to participate personally in direct operation. For an entity, an approved Managing Owner must own more than half of the business, have the required control and devote sufficient attention to it.
An approved Operating Principal must devote all business time and attention to management and operation. That person need not own equity, but must have authority over daily business decisions. The Managing Owner may also serve as Operating Principal. Both roles must complete the required training.
Questions to ask before investing
Item 10 states that the franchisor does not offer direct or indirect financing and does not guarantee a franchisee’s obligations. Assess funding separately from the training and support program.
- Who will manage sales, client relationships and service delivery?
- What skills and personnel are needed for the services you expect to offer?
- How do territory and approved-service restrictions affect the business plan?
- What costs continue while the client base is being developed?
- What do existing and former franchisees say about workload and support?
Review the current costs and any financial performance representations before forming an earnings expectation. A managed-services model does not guarantee lower customer costs or a profitable franchise.
