About 2nd Family

2nd Family’s operating history began in May 2012, when affiliate 2nd Family Home Health Services, LLC started providing non-medical senior care and support in Baltimore, Maryland, and surrounding counties. Co-founders Chadmark “Chad” Tracey and Joshua “Josh” Markland are also co-owners of that operating business. The 2026 disclosure identifies Chad as president and Josh as vice president of both the affiliate and the franchise company.

2nd Family Franchising, LLC was formed in Maryland in February 2017 and began offering franchises on September 1, 2017. Based in Eldersburg, Maryland, the franchisor is owned by 2nd Family Holdings, LLC, while affiliated 2nd Family Properties, LLC owns the trademarks. The franchise system carries the operating business’s care, communication, management and training standards into locally operated territories.

The business serves people needing varying levels of non-medical assistance, including older adults, individuals with disabilities and people recovering from illness or injury. Care can take place in a permanent home or a temporary living facility. Under the disclosed operating requirements, a registered nurse serves as Director of Nursing, and caregivers must hold current nursing assistant credentials or meet equivalent state requirements. This combines practical daily assistance with defined staffing and care-management responsibilities.

2nd Family Training and Support

Before opening, individual franchisees or all owners of a franchise entity must complete the five-day Initial Management Training Program to the franchisor’s satisfaction. The schedule lists 50 classroom hours covering pre-opening procedures, people development, caregiver recruiting, marketing, referral network development, working with clients and daily operations. Training takes place in Eldersburg, Maryland, or another selected location and may include remote webinar sessions. Materials include the operations manual, 2nd Family University curriculum, Learning Center guides, Launch Guides and weekly coaching calls.

Initial instruction for up to two people is included in the franchise fee; owners pay travel, meals, lodging and other personal attendance costs. Additional trainees and subsequently approved managers currently cost $1,500 per person, plus attendance expenses. The franchisor may provide one day of on-site or virtual assistance after opening, with the disclosure describing an optional in-territory visit within the first 180 days. Additional training and an annual conference can each require up to three days per year, with tuition, registration and travel costs potentially applying. Remedial in-territory training is separately charged.

Launch support includes territory planning, site selection guidelines and approval, manuals, required equipment and supply lists, and samples or digital artwork for marketing. Franchisees must use the designated licensing consultant, whose cost is separately budgeted, and remain responsible for licenses, staff recruitment and office setup. The disclosure estimates a typical 120–180-day period from signing to opening. After launch, owners may request individualized assistance by phone, video or email within reasonable limits and staff availability. The franchisor maintains a website link for the location and updates approved supplier and operating specifications.

Required home care management software supports scheduling, case management, client communication and billing. Owners fund required systems, software subscriptions and updates, including a $5,000 charge to customize the system after opening. Local marketing is planned and placed by the franchisee using approved materials: at least $10,000 is required in the first 90 days, followed by at least another $10,000 across months four through twelve. Ongoing local advertising and system marketing fund obligations apply afterward; the franchisor does not guarantee advertising placement or spending in each territory.

Why 2nd Family

2nd Family is worth considering for an owner who enjoys developing relationships and managing the details that make a service dependable. Its offering addresses everyday needs such as meals, transportation, companionship and personal assistance, allowing a local team to support people through different stages of life. The required Director of Nursing role, caregiver standards and shared operating procedures give the owner a defined framework for organizing that service.

Local execution remains central. The franchisee must personally supervise the business, and appointing a manager requires prior written approval and completion of the required training. A suitable buyer will be ready to recruit and retain caregivers, communicate with clients and families, and build referral relationships in the territory. For someone drawn to those responsibilities, the combination of a care-focused business, practical management training and established administrative systems gives 2nd Family a clear ownership rationale.
