About HomeTeam Inspection
HomeTeam Inspection Service was founded by Paul D. Spires, Jr. and incorporated in Ohio in December 1992. The company began offering franchises that same month and was organized specifically to sell and support building-inspection franchises. It remains based in Milford, Ohio, where its home office supports the franchise network.
The core service is a whole-house inspection, commonly performed for a buyer during a home purchase to report on the building’s general condition and identify major defects. Franchisees serve buyers, sellers and owners directly and through relationships with real estate agents, relocation companies, lenders, attorneys and other referral sources. The team approach requires at least two inspectors at each whole-house inspection. Qualifying existing inspection businesses can also convert to the HomeTeam system.
Territory formats and investment
A new franchise has an estimated initial investment of $65,100 to $91,800. Initial franchise fees vary by territory size: $45,000 for a Limited territory, $55,000 for Standard and $65,000 for Premium. A separate $14,800 startup package is included in the investment estimate. The conversion range is $42,600 to $59,300, with lower initial fees for qualifying existing businesses. These estimates exclude real estate costs and assume the owner already has a suitable vehicle; owner compensation, personal living expenses and financing costs are additional.
HomeTeam Inspection Training and Support
Before opening, HomeTeam provides a one-week initial program for up to two attendees at its Milford, Ohio office or another designated location, supplemented by online preparation and activities in the franchise territory. Topics cover business planning, technology, scheduling, hiring, accounting, legal issues, sales and marketing, inspection standards and procedures, and report writing. Practical components include mock inspections and local sales coaching. The owner or designated representative responsible for managing the business must complete training successfully.
There is no separate initial training tuition charge, but attendees’ travel, lodging, meals and compensation are the franchisee’s responsibility. HomeTeam may use state-approved third-party inspection training and pays the initial state-licensing training cost for one person when that route is used. The startup package includes specified technology and tools, marketing materials, a vehicle-branding allowance, six months of the Digital Marketing Package and nine months of FrontOffice. Contents can change as programs and technology evolve.
Owners receive access to the operations portal, software instructions, approved suppliers, digital forms and communication resources. The required Inspection Support Network software supports client records, agreements, reports, invoices and business communications, with ongoing software charges. HomeTeam provides personalized pages on its website and pre-approved advertising. Its digital marketing program currently includes search visibility work, managed local social profiles, directory listings and review services. Additional training may be offered or required; a convention is typically held, with fees and travel costs governed separately.
Why HomeTeam Inspection
HomeTeam’s distinctive feature is its inspection team: owners build a service that requires multiple inspectors at the property, supported by common procedures and reporting tools. That format can appeal to an entrepreneur who wants to manage people and develop referral relationships while remaining close to the work. The option to start from a home office also gives the business a practical operating base, subject to local requirements.
The brand has franchised since 1992 and combines inspection-specific instruction with sales, technology and business-management training. New owners and qualified existing inspection operators have separate entry options. A full-time owner or approved representative must supervise the business, making HomeTeam suited to someone prepared to lead an inspection team and maintain reliable relationships in the local property market.
